Hello SJMA Members!

The SJMA Board of Directors has openings! Yes, more than one! Do you enjoy being an SJMA member? Are you a fun-loving, energetic, organized, dependable, committed, career-minded manager at the City of San Jose? Are you looking for different ways to network with your peers, make new friends, and challenge yourself? If so, then we are looking for YOU! Please consider joining the SJMA Board of Directors!

We love putting on social events, professional development opportunities, and networking functions for our members to enjoy, but we need your help. If you are interested in joining the SJMA Board of Directors, and are willing to put in the time to promote and enhance our association, please attend our Board Members Recruitment Reception! This reception will take place at our monthly meeting on October 9. Come enjoy lunch on us, and see what being on the Board of Directors is all about!

Please note that being on the board is a commitment of your time and energy. It is a working board; we do not have staff, so we do all the heavy-lifting ourselves. As a board member, you will be expected to lead/host at least one event per year and/or co-host at least two events per year. You can recruit other board members to help, but taking event ownership is a requirement. You are also expected to attend and be an active participant at the monthly lunch-time board meetings, where lunch is provided. Minimal absences are allowed, but only when prior notification has been given to the President, Vice President, or Secretary. Board Officers such as President, Secretary, and Treasurer have additional on-going responsibilities. Board Officers are selected from our active board members.

A note from Our City Manager, Dave Sykes: I have always appreciated being part of SMJA.  Early in my career it was helpful to get to know my peers from across the organization and it certainly broadened my perspective.  Now, it helps me stay connected with our management staff in a less formal setting and have some fun along the way. I encourage you to get involved and I look forward to seeing at the next event!
